Citation & reuse policy

Our research is meant to be used. This policy explains how to cite it, what you are free to reuse, and the attribution we ask for in return.

This policy is effective from 12 May 2026 and applies to research published on internationalresearchinstitute.org. It complements the licence terms in our terms of use.

Licence

Except where stated otherwise, the text of our publications is made available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. You are free to share and adapt the material, including for commercial purposes, provided you give appropriate credit, indicate any changes, and do not imply our endorsement. Each publication states its own licence.

How to cite our work

Every publication carries a copy-ready suggested citation and a digital object identifier. Please cite the specific publication, its authors and its year, and include the DOI so readers can find the version you used. Our house style is:

Author(s) (Year). Title of publication. Series number. International Research Institute. https://doi.org/…

When you quote or paraphrase, cite the page or section, and take care not to change the meaning or present a finding out of the context in which it was made.

Adaptations and translations

You may adapt or translate CC BY 4.0 material provided you attribute the original, mark clearly that changes were made, and do not suggest we produced or endorsed your version. For a translation, please note that it is unofficial and identify the source text and its date.

Datasets

Datasets published through our data and indicators pages may carry their own licence and citation, which are noted on each dataset. Where a dataset is released under CC BY 4.0, cite the dataset, its version and its DOI. Reuse of data is also subject to our data use policy.

Our name, logo and brand

The Institute’s name, logo and visual identity are not covered by the CC BY licence and remain our property. You may name us as the source of a publication you are citing, but please do not use our logo or brand in a way that suggests partnership, sponsorship or endorsement without our written agreement.

What we ask in return

  • credit the authors and the Institute, and link to the original;
  • preserve any existing attributions and licence notices;
  • do not misrepresent our findings or imply endorsement of a product, organisation or position;
  • tell us if you spot an error, so we can apply our corrections policy.

Permissions and questions

For uses that fall outside the licence, or if you are unsure, contact us at enquiries@internationalresearchinstitute.org or through our contact page. We are glad to help you use our research well.
